Collecting your race pack:

  1. Head over to the indemnity form station and sign to receive your rider number. Remember to bring along your ID/Drivers license/Passport.
  2. If you are wanting to make a last minute substitution, the substitutions desk will assist and process this for you.
  3. Make your way down to the race pack collection station, hand in your indemnity form and receive your race pack and goodie bag.
  4. If you have pre-ordered a rider bag, don’t forget to pick it up from the bag collection station.

Once all the essentials are done, you are free to experience and enjoy the rest of what registration day has to offer! Have lunch with your friends and family, enjoy a wine tasting and experience a great afternoon out as you gear up to start Stage 1 the following day.

We recommend that you bring no (or as few as possible) valuables to the race. We cannot take responsibility for valuables lost during the course of the event.

Your Bicycle

Your bike should be in perfect working order at the start of the FNB W2W MTB. It will be subjected to severe riding conditions and we recommend that you replace any old parts that may not survive the distance. Select tyres that are suitable for harsh conditions. The use of tubeless tyres is highly recommended. Check your slime levels and top up slime. Various bike shops will provide repairs and servicing in the race villages. We anticipate a high demand for their services, so draw on them only when absolutely necessary. Replacement parts will be sold at normal retail prices.
Equipment checklist:

  • Helmet, gloves, cycling shoes
  • 3 sets of cycling shorts, tops, socks
  • Wind breaker 
  • Sun glasses 
  • Hydration pack with space for spares – a capacity of 3 litres. 
  • GPS /Heart rate monitor, bike computer (optional) + Chargers 
  • Slime/Stan’s, bomb and adaptor, plugs etc, 
  • Gators, pump, brake pads, drop out, chain, links, pins, 
  • Cable ties, duct tape 
  • Lube (squirt) 

First Aid Kit

  • Foil survival blanket 
  • Three first aid dressings 
  • Five adhesive first aid plasters  
  • Sun block 
  • Pain killers – NOT available in the Medical Tent.

The Squirt Talisman Bike Wash

Squirt Lube and Talisman Hire offer a free complete bike wash and lube service in the race village at Oak Valley for the full duration of the Wines2Whales. A Bike wash is also available at the finish in Hermanus.

Please note: Accommodation offered as part of any given entry package for the Chardonnay, Pinotage and Shiraz events is only for the duration of each event – It does not include the night before the stage 1 start or the night after stage 3 is completed.

The 2018 FNB Wines2Whales will host several bike service providers who can ensure your equipment is professionally maintained throughout the duration of each of our 3-day events. 

Having spent months preparing for Wines2Whales, the last thing you want is for a mechanical failure to end your race! Our fully equipped race support team are on hand to ensure that your bike is prepped and ready for the conditions that each day presents.
